Things to do on your trip
All aboard
Canal boating is a great way to keep everyone happy with beautiful scenery, home comforts and the possibility of a new destination each day. A grown-up can captain the boat while others help with mooring, casting off, operating lift bridges and going through locks. Any children in your group will relish newly-found freedoms, space to stretch their legs and the opportunity to use their imaginations.
Keep active
Walk the towpath, summit Pen y Fan, go fishing, horse riding, geocaching or indoor climbing. Children can try our fun activity sheets, hunting for wildlife and spotting narrowboats while teenagers go mountain biking at Bike Park Wales. With playgrounds, a dry ski slope, museums, libraries, theatres, cinemas, a bowling alley and a swimming pool, there’s plenty to suit everyone.
Dog-friendly
Dogs stay for free on all of our boats. The canal is the perfect base for a dog-friendly holiday with miles of towpaths for walks in beautiful surroundings. We provide a dog towel for you to wipe their muddy paws, or dry them off after that unexpected swim, and our rigorous cleaning regime ensures that no one will ever know that a pet has been on board.
Make an event of it
The Green Man Festival, Crickhowell Walking Festival, Crickhowell Music Festival, Hay Festival, Royal Welsh Show, Brecon Jazz, Brecon Baroque Festival, Abergavenny Festival of Cycling and Abergavenny Food Festival all take place in the area and are definitely worth taking a look at.
Simple pleasures
Whether you’re young or just young at heart, each day brings new discoveries when you stay on our narrowboats. Share your breakfast crumbs with birds, photograph the fluffiest baby ducklings, have a picnic, lose yourself in a good book or simply walk to the local shop to choose a delicious homemade cake.
After dark
Lose yourself in a good book in front of the wood-burner or wrap up warm under the vast starry sky. Your deck is one of the best stargazing spots in the Brecon Beacons, an International Dark Sky Reserve.
