From the beautiful lounge/conservatory, with wood burning stove, there are spectacular views across the canal. This room leads to the kitchen/dining room with handmade oak kitchen. The large bedroom with vaulted ceiling is the perfect space for relaxation, with a wood-burning stove and a lavish slipper bath in front of the window overlooking the canal and mountains beyond. There’s also an ensuite shower room. To complement the two log burners, there is underfloor heating throughout the property.

There are acres of bluebell woods to explore and, overlooking the canal, is your very own canalside terrace with patio table and chairs and (new for 2019) a hot tub. There is space for a car alongside the cottage, and further car parking just a few yards away.

Bath and shower room

We believe there is nothing better than a long soak after a good days walk, and where better than in a roll top bath in front of the fire; we even provide the bubbles! In addition to this bath there is an ensuite containing a large walk in shower, basin and toilet, all within a beautifully tiled room with under floor heating to ensure you're warm and cosy even on winter mornings. You'll find plenty of fluffy towels and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.

Just as important as a soak after a good walk is a well-equipped kitchen to prepare that well deserved meal. You will find handmade oak units, a flagstone floor, dishwasher, microwave, Dualit toaster and an amazing electric range cooker at its heart. Everything needed to cook and serve a fantastic meal can be found in the kitchen, from the herbs outside and blowtorch (for the crème brûlèe) to the candles and linen napkins. A welcome pack of tea and coffee, along with something sweet, will help you feel at home the moment you arrive and put the kettle on. The adjacent drying room houses a washer/dryer.

There's a table and chairs for dining with views down to the canal. Or if the weather's pleasant a few steps will take you to your canalside terrace where you can round off your evening relaxing at the patio table with a glass of wine.

Keeping warm

It's a cosy cottage all year round, thanks to the under floor central heating and the two woodburning stoves in the lounge and bedroom (with a plentiful supply of hardwood logs from the back garden).

The terraced garden fronts onto the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal; narrowboats cruise along here from March to October and there's plenty of wildlife all year round so there's always something interesting to watch. Shaded by the trees, the garden has a hot tub, patio furniture and a BBQ. A footpath leads up through our 30 acres of broadleaf woodland to the top of the Blorenge mountain - a serious climb rewarded with breath taking views. You can fish from the edge of the terrace, or launch your kayak/canoe into the canal. A car can be parked alongside the cottage, with further car parking a few yards away.

There is no charge for bringing well-behaved pets on holiday with you. All we ask is that you keep them contained to the lounge and kitchen area. And, if you're not so keen on pets, be assured that our cleaning is extremely rigorous.

The lounge has a conservatory feel with its large windows providing extensive views of the surrounding mountains and canal. There is a wood-burning stove (complete with plenty of logs), a comfy sofa, digital flatscreen TV with Freeview (with home cinema surround sound) and CD/DVD/digital radio. And there's an inspiring collection of local books and maps to help you plan where you'll go tomorrow. Wifi is freely available throughout the property.

The bedroom is surprisingly the largest room in the cottage with its Feather and Black kingsize bed, gas effect wood burning stove and your roll top bath. There's ample wardrobe and storage space, a second TV/DVD, digital radio and CD player with iPod/MP3 dock.

Small details

The price includes electricity and logs for the wood-burning stove, and there's no extra charge for bringing your dog! All essential consumables are provided: cleaning materials, dishcloths, tea towels, towels and toilet rolls. For groceries, Waitrose is less than 5 minutes away and Abergavenny has butchers, bakers, grocers, Aldi and a small Tesco. There's a large Tesco with extensive opening hours just 15 minutes away at Ebbw Vale. The holiday cottage is strictly non-smoking.

Welcome home

The entrance to your cottage is via a porch with oak bench for sitting on while taking off your walking boots/wellies. There's space to store footwear and umbrellas, and plenty of coat hooks.
