What can you do on a canal boat holiday?

Go cruising

No experience is needed as our narrowboats are simple to handle. Prior to your holiday, you’ll receive our training DVD, which shows all aspects of boat handling and explains how everything works. Then, when you arrive, we’ll provide a detailed handover and accompany you on a practice cruise. You’ll feel confident before you leave the wharf, and can be assured of our support throughout your holiday, if needed. Everyone on board can get involved: adults get the opportunity to 'captain' the boat, and everyone can get involved with mooring, casting off and going through the locks.

New sights each day

Wake up in a new place each day, without having to change your accommodation. Moorings are free along the length of the Mon & Brec so you can decide where to stop and what to explore. From canalside villages with friendly pubs, to secluded spots where you’ll have the canal to yourselves.

Relax, everyone

It's easy to relax on our boats, as you're in the lap of luxury and travelling at less than walking speed. Many visitors find a refreshing satisfaction in cruising to new destination, walking to the local village for a newspaper, and cooking dinner together. Even your dog will enjoy this holiday, with plenty of great walks along the towpath or up the mountains.

Happy children

There’s so much to do right on your doorstep: exploring the towpath, taking the dog up the mountain, fishing, geocaching, paddling in the river Usk, going for bike rides, having picnics. From Summer 2018 our new activity leaflets will keep children amused for hours, as they hunt for wildlife, look out for historic features and try to spot the rest of our fleet. Within walking distance of the canal, there are playgrounds, museums, libraries, theatres, cinemas, a bowling alley and swimming pool – plenty to keep all ages entertained, even on wet days.

Sleep soundly

Many visitors tell us they've had the best night sleep for ages on board our boats. Probably something to do with the comfortable beds, the lovely bed linen and all that fresh air!

Probably the most difficult bit is choosing which narrowboat to hire!
